Vanilla Bean

Posted on

What to make with these! I’ve heard of putting them in sugar for vanilla sugar, scraping out the insides for more intense vanilla flavor in foods, but what popped in my head was Kahlúa. So off to the store we go.

One fifth of Vodka, good variety that you would drink, not the cheap $3.00 R & R, instant espresso, and brown sugar. That’s it! You will also need some containers to store it in when it is done, I saved a really cool wine bottle that Kailey got me for Christmas, Thank you Kailey, and will reuse the vodka bottle.

Heat the 1 ounce of instant espresso, 4 cups brown sugar, and Vanilla bean chopped finely or split in half and seeds from the bean scraped out and put in pan with 3 cups of water. Let it steep for 30 min. remove from heat and let cool.

After cooling, add the fifth of vodka and divide into two one quart bottles and age for 2-3 weeks.

How easy is that! So I will have Sprouts, Tofu, and Kahlua! LOL

About heylaydee

An average cook, an enthusiasm for experimenting and trying new things, is the reason for this blog. That and I found myself in the “empty nest” syndrome and needed an outlet. So I picked up the camera that was collecting dust, got out the pile of recipes, contacted friends and family for their favorites and starting cooking again. What could be better than a glass of wine, a hot stove, and creativity? Come along for the ride. I will be blogging about food, family, and anything else that inspires me.
