Mapquest……….. lol 17.8 miles down hwy 26, turn right on Wacker Road. Did that just say Wacker Road? Meanwhile, we are reading every street sign, NO Wacker Road. That was the start of Saturday’s Excursion.
Chris and I took off after he got off work and headed out to
see Gerald and Joan’s new vacation home. They purchased the old post office in Deadwood, Oregon. They are working on it a few days a week getting it ready for fishing season. They plan on renting it out during the season, and using it themselves.
We never found Wacker Road, we did find Nelson Mtn. Road….. Just remember, on Mapquest, you have shortest distance? And fastest distance, which I think they should rename to “As the crow flies” Nelson Mtn. Road starts off paved, goes to gravel, climbs….. and climbs….we decided the Camaro wasn’t intended to be driven over a gravel mountain road, so we turned around and headed back to the Triangle Lake cutoff. We made it to Deadwood, the LONG way round.
Overall it was a nice drive. We passed all of Chris’ childhood haunts, Low Pass, the Plunking Hole, and several other stops he remembers as a kid fishing and dirt bike riding up there. And I memories of travels to Yachats to visit Grandma and Grandpa Benson.
Next time we will keep in mind that fastest, doesn’t always mean the best route.
